Bruno Carvalho works on cidades as lived and imagined spaces. He researches relationships between cultural practices e urbanization, with a focus top top Brazil. Carvalho’s interdisciplinary approaches perna history, literature analysis, and urban studies. Often, the investigates how socio-cultural procedures of ns past converge in and with ns present. He is writing der book on various ways in which people have imagined urban futures since the 1750s, tentatively titled The development of the Future: A cultural history of urbanization in the Atlantic World. A rio de janeiro native, Carvalho obtained his Ph.D. In ~ Harvard universidade (2009) e was a faculty member in ~ Princeton university (2009-2018).

Carvalho has written plenty of articles and essays. The is a author of the award-winning Porous City: A cultural History of fluxo de Janeiro, released in Brazil in a revised and expanded edition. At Harvard, Carvalho is Co-Director that the Harvard Mellon urban Initiative, e a member of a Faculty was standing Committee on History e Literature, of a Advisory Committee ~ above Ethnicity, Migration, Rights, and of the Brazil research studies Program, also as a Steering Committee of a Weatherhead initiative on globais History. He is also a Faculty Affiliate in Critical media Practice, at the Afro-Latin american Research Institute, the Center ao the Environment, the Graduate school of Design, and the Weatherhead centro for internacional Affairs.
